"I'm hoping that very soon I'll be sitting out in the quiet of the desert beneath a deep blue midnight sky, listening to the calm desert breeze. The idea going into the desert came to me soon after I moved to Oceanside.

I've been gathering my gear for this adventure for over a month, not a long time by most standards, but far too long for my impatient nature. Being a minimalist by nature, wanting to carry only the essentials, and being extremely particular, it has been a little difficult to find just the right equipment. I plan on going so deep into the desert, that any failure of my equipment, could cost me my life. I've been doing a great deal of research and study. I want to know all I can about where I'm going, and I want to make sure I have the best equipment.

One more week. I think one more week, and I'll be ready to go."

After riding into the desert on his dirt bike and running out of gas, he attempted to walk back to camp. He stopped to rest and was overcome by the desert heat. He passed away on September 4th and his body was found on September 8th.

Fedor Emelianenko doesn't seem like the kind of guy to back down from a fight, so I'm curious to see if this will bring about a UFC/Affliction match like Randy Couture vs. Fedor. If Fertitta is trying to egg Fedor into signing with UFC this is probably the wrong way to ago around it.

"The contracts that Fedor has at this point in time would allow for such a fight to take place, and specifically the Randy fight,” said Raimond, “so we’re free to make that happen if the opportunity presents itself.”

While this means there is one less obstacle blocking the fight ticket, Affliction still has be dealt with. They are probably the biggest roadblock in a Fedor vs. Randy Couture matchup.

"Affliction: Day of Reckoning" takes place October 11 at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas. The main event is a fight between Andrei Arlovski and Josh Barnett. We will also see the return of Tito Ortiz as he is scheduled to fight Renato "Babalu" Sobral.

Michkov Alexander graduated from Volgograd Institute of Physical Education in 1983. He is the coach in the Olympic reserve club Golden Gloves and Master of Sports in boxing. He has been training Fedor since he started his MMA career.

Ruslan Nagnibeda is a new addition to the team in preparation for his fight with Mirko Crocop. Ruslan is a world champion (ITF) in TaeKwonDo, Muay Thai World Champion (Euro Thay), and a 5-time World Champ in Seikin Do league.

Voronov is in charge of Fedor's ground work, Michkov trains his hands, and Ruslan does knees and kicks. All of his coaches are trained in MMA.

Oleg Neustreev is a former boxer. He is the doctor, masseur and a physiatrist of the team.

Fedor's Training Camp:
Training camp consists of three weeks training in a high altitude location. The ioned air, sun radiation, and less air pressure all contribute to increased cardio and quicker recovery.

Fedor's Training Details:
First week consists of three training sessions a day. The 7:30 AM workout is an hour long and the second and third workout of the day are two hours long. Workouts include cardio and working on technique. The second and third weeks get progressively harder. Each training session becomes three hours long for a total of nine hours spent in training per day. Saturday and Sunday are considered free days, although soccer and sauna are a must on Saturday.

Question and Answers with Fedor's Coaching Team:
Q. (for coaches) How do you prepare for specific opponents?
A. (Voronov) We try to watch as many fights as possible of our opponent and study them in greatest detail we can. We even search the web. The fighter ALSO is a part of game plan selecting team. IF the opponent is a striker, we train striking more, and if he is a grappler we concentrate on grappling. We find weak spots and work on that.

(Nagnibeda) take Zentsov-Rizzo. We found a typical mistake in our preparation. He (Rizzo) always puts down his (same side) hand very low during his kicks. He opens too much. We prepared about 5 variations to use punches against Rizzo`s kicks, and thou Roman was not a favorite in the fight and Rizzo is a very experienced fighter our game plan was correct. (Voronov) so one of the worst things that can happen before the fight is the change of opponent. Japanese are a little bit better at keeping their promises as to the opponents than American promoters.

Q. Does Russian governamet help you guys?
A. (michkov) Yes, but there needs to be MORE help. We rely on our selfs and our manager vadim Finkilstein a lot. The equipment in some smaller clubs and schools is old.

Q. How does training change before the fight?
A. (Voronov) After 3 week camp, we have 1 week rest, then training takes shape of an actual fight. We train specifics, and actual combat in the ring, at real speed, another words as close to the fight situation as we can.

Q. Is Fedor the best pupil you had? Why is he that good?
A. He is the best for sure. The reason is because he works harder than anyone. He trains longer, more and harder than anyone else.

Q. Fedor looks smaller now. What`s going on? Is he dropping weight?
A. (Voronov) All changes to Fedor`s body are natural. We never plan to gain or lose weight for him. He eats and trains normally all the time.

Q. Do you feel like you`re giving away some valuable info during such interviews?
A. Not at all, because no info can make a master. Everyone knows the details of many things, but that doesn`t make one a master. What makes one great is hard work. One has to die in training, only then a move begins to work.

Q. What is the diet for Fedor and others?
A. Regular good food with lots of fruits and vegetables, vitamins, and natural healing recipes.

Q. How do you prepare Fedor for the fights?
A. Fedor likes to not think about the fight at all. He plays cards and talks about other things.

Q. Do you watch k1 and UFC?
A. Sure, if the game plan or the opponent warrant it.

Q. What about Fedor`s age? His competitive hunger?
A. As long as he keeps training the way he does now, he`ll be on top. At some point later, he`ll have to compete with himself - find new ways to motivate himself etc. AS it is now, he`ll ONLY be winning!
